COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
100 Clock Hours
This course will thoroughly examine the dynamics of the human body. Students
will study extensively the major systems of the body, as well as the muscle
origins, insertions and actions. The students will gain knowledge of how
massage therapy effects these body systems and an
intelligent understanding and appreciation of anatomy and the functioning and
structure of the human body.
FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY
50 Class Hours
Classroom lectures will explain the biomechanics of the human body and the
functions of the musculoskeletal systems. Lab demonstrations will include
observation of individual gait looking for abnormal holding patterns, as well
as using plumb lines to determine alignment. The student will learn how
different massage modalities can improve movement patterns.
PATHOLOGY
40 Clock Hours
This class is intended to educate the students to identify and understand
abnormal disease processes and their effects on the human body. The
importance of this knowledge in helping the student gain confidence and the
ability to make an informed decision of when to perform massage and when to
refer to other health-care professionals. Students will have the ability to
identify potential pathological conditions commonly seen in the massage
setting, as well as learn how to confidentially and intelligently conduct a
bodywork interview understanding proper protocols.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
100 Clock Hours
This course will teach the students how to perform a full-body traditional
Swedish massage using the five basic strokes, basic massage techniques and
proper draping, with a clear understanding of contraindications. Students
will also gain an understanding of the physiological and psychological
effects and benefits of massage therapy. Students will be taught how to
understand and meet individual needs, to skillfully and confidentially apply
pressure and techniques. Emphasis is placed on proper body mechanics and
self-care. This course will be taught through lecture, demonstration and
hands-on. This course will also include training in aromatherapy and
self-care for the massage therapist. Each individual student will be
evaluated by our connoisseur team of 10 experienced massage clients, as well
as each instructor for final completion of this course.
SELF CARE
6 Clock Hours
Learn how to increase your longevity as a therapist with simple techniques
you can apply yourself. Essential oils will be introduced to enhance
your Swedish massage. This material will be covered in accordance with
your Swedish course.
THEORY AND ETHICS FOR THE MASSAGE THERAPIST
9 Clock Hours
This course defines the professional ethics required within the massage
profession. Integrity, organizational skills, proper net-working, boundaries,
strong business ethics, and good health, hygiene habits will be emphasized.
CLINIC ORIENTATION AND AIDS AWARENESS
6 Clock Hours
This course will prepare the student for the professional massage setting.
Focusing on how to greet clients, preparing professional S.O.A.P notes, and
proper care of linens. The student will understand the importance of strong
business ethics and how to respond professionally in various circumstances.
Awareness of AIDS and the HIV virus and how to legally and ethically manage a
client with AIDS or HIV.
CLINIC INTERNSHIP
150 Clock Hours
The students will be supervised by a Licensed Massage Therapist who will be
observing ethics, massage techniques, body mechanics, proper draping and time
management as well as evaluating the students S.O.A.P notes while providing
professional advice and assistance. Clinic Internship hours are as follows:

MODULE I
REFLEXOLOGY & AROMATHERAPY
20 Clock Hours
This course teaches students the correlation between the major organs and of
the body and specific zones and points of the feet and hands that help to
alleviate pain and promote good general health. Students will learn how to
sure pure essential oils to enhance their
practice through reflexology. Includes 5 in-class clinical hours.
MODULE II
POLARITY & CHAKRA BALANCING
15 Clock hours
Learn how to detect heat and cold imbalances in the body and a routine to
promote homeostasis within the nervous system. Students will also
become familiar with the seven major chakras and how to balance them.
MODULE III
SPORTS MASSAGE & HYDROTHERAPY
21 Clock Hours
Students will learn how to effectively perform sports training, post and
pre-event massage. Hydrotherapy, Cryotherapy, and
PNF will be emphasized. We combine this class with a sporting event to allow
for hands on experience.
MODULE IV
SPA & COMPLIMENTARY MODALITIES
30 Clock Hours
This module will introduce the student to the wide variety of massage modalites to see what else is available for further
instruction later in their career if they so choose. Modalities such as;
Brain Gym, Reiki, Trager, Heller work, Lomi Lomi, Infant and Prenatal
Massage, Special Populations, Rolfing, CranioSacral,
and more are introduced in this class. This is a very interactive class;
students give oral and written reports, In addition, students will learn how
to perform spa services without a wet-room or shower, to offer a larger menu
of services to their clients. Includes 5 in-class clinical hours.
MODULE V
MYOFASCIAL INTEGRATION
50 Clock Hours
This module is a conglomeration of three clinical
types of body work. We will introduce advanced techniques in deep
tissue massage, neuromuscular and trigger point and injury massage
therapies. Students will learn the most common trigger points and their
referral zones. An analyses of the dysfunction/injuries, how to
identify them and relieve the impingement. Integrative Myofascial Ailment, a technique to lengthen the
muscles/fascia which is shortened due to the imbalance. Overall goal is
to restore normal balance and function due to limited range of motion, nerve
entrapments, poor posture, repetitive use injuries and other various chronic
pain conditions. Students will be taught through lecture, demonstration
and hands-on. This class is followed up with 10 clinic hours.
MODULE VI
SHIATSU
30 Clock Hours
This module will teach this ancient art of Shiatsu. Students will learn
through demonstration and hands-on training how to properly perform a
full-body shiatsu session. They will teach through lecture the theory
of how working specific pressure points along the energy meridian pathways
through the body free stagnant energy, thereby restoring the flow of
energy. We will discuss the five-element theory, the concept of the Tao,
principles of yin and yang. Students will learn how to effectively
apply the shiatsu techniques as well as learn contraindications. The
“recipes” known as Tuina, designed to help specific
conditions will also be taught. Included are 5 in-class clinical hours.
MODULE VII
NUTRITION
12 Clock Hours
You are what you eat! Students will be instructed on proper diet and
nutrition in order to obtain and maintain optimal health for themselves and
their clients.
MODULE VIII
SELF AWARENESS
18 Clock Hours
The concepts of Feng Shui
will be introduced to help students understand the impact and the importance
of the five elements in their everyday life, and to help them have a deeper
understanding of the effects of stress in our physical environment. Students
will become acquainted with the BaGua map, and how
to harmoniously arrange their environment to enhance the flow of chi, thereby
increasing their own potential for balance and harmony in their lives. The
Self Awareness course will involve a variety of exercises to help students
clear emotional and physical blockages that may be inhibiting them from
achieving their goals. This will involve goal setting, life-planning
and learning how to positively affirm what it is they really want in their
lives encouraging them to achieve their highest potential as individuals and
therapists.
MODULE IX
BUSINESS AND PRACTICE BUILDING
27 Clock Hours
The students will learn how to successfully design and create and powerful
resume and business cards. Emphasis on the importance of impeccable
accounting, appointment records, and income. Professional ethics and
net-working and proper hygiene will be re-emphasized. A Q & A panel will
be put together of licensed massage therapists for an opportunity for the
students to gain knowledge of what they can expect as they embark on the
massage therapy career.
MODULE X
NATIONAL BOARD & UTAH STATE EXAM REVIEW
21 Clock Hours
This class is designed to prepare students for the National Board Examination
as well as the Utah State Laws exam. Successful test taking strategies will
also be discussed. At the completion of this course, students will be
required to pass a comprehensive exam of the entire 715 hour course which
will prepare them for the required licensure exams.
